Netreo Q2 2023 Product Enhancement Roundup

By: NetreoNoaa
June 27, 2023

To wrap up Q2, our Product Roundup highlights our more exciting Netreo UX and product enhancements, plus gives you a glimpse into what’s in store for the rest of 2023. Thanks for your continued support, and don’t forget to submit your ideas for improving Netreo through our in-product suggestion portal.

Q2 HighlightsTesting Monitoring Product of the Year

Sure, Netreo captured Testing/Monitoring Product of the Year honors for the 7th time in 8 years from Network Computing. But that doesn’t mean we’re resting on our laurels. We continue to focus on the customer with usability enhancements that elevate the Netreo UX and expand overall functionality.

Improved Visualization of Site Status Summary Data

To improve visualization of site status summary data, the bar graph has been replaced with a numeric counter. This enables users to easily see large count differences between values and quickly identify issues and discrepancies.

Expanded Editing Support for Subnet Configuration Page

Rounding out Site Subnet Configuration improvements, users can now perform inline editing of any subnets associated with a site. Just as a new subnet can be added via a ghost row, these rows can now be unlocked for editing and saving inline without any pop-ups or cumbersome form entry.

Manual Subnet Addition Improvement

To improve overall ease of use, the Netreo UI for subnet addition under Site Administration simplifies the adding of individual subnets for scanning by adding a ghost row to the table instead of displaying a pop-up window.

Bulk Subnet Import/Export Configuration Option

For added convenience and efficiency, Netreo has simplified subnet scan setup by providing an option for importing and exporting subnets in bulk through CSV files. Users can now export any existing subnets via the UI and edit the exported CSV file to add fields and rows to existing subnets. Users can then import the CSV file to update existing records, as well as add new records. The new configuration options also includes an actions menu for bulk deletion and enable/disable auto scan functions. This is the first of a number of enhancements to improve editing of existing subnet records.

WinRM Polling Update

In support of Microsoft deprecating remote WMIC polling on March 14, 2023, all new Netreo deployments will default to WinRM polling for monitoring Windows Server environments. While Netreo will support WMIC polling for older versions of Windows Server, switching to the more secure WinRM service for polling is highly recommended, plus all previous Netreo workarounds to temporarily bypass issues created by Microsoft DCOM hardening will not work. For information on how to configure WinRM polling, both globally and per device, see our Knowledge Base article.

WMI: Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is the infrastructure for management data and operations on Windows-based operating systems. Although you can write WMI scripts or applications to automate administrative tasks on remote computers, WMI also supplies management data to other parts of the operating system and products. For example, System Center Operations Manager or Windows Remote Management.

WMI is fully supported by Microsoft. The latest version of administrative scripting and control is available through the Windows Management Infrastructure (MI). MI is fully compatible with previous versions of WMI. It provides a host of features and benefits that make designing and developing providers and clients easy. For more information, see Windows Management Infrastructure.

WMIC: The WMI command-line (WMIC) utility provides a command-line interface for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The WMIC utility is compatible with existing shells and utility commands.

WMIC is deprecated as of Windows 10, version 21H1, and as of the 21H1 semi-annual channel release of Windows Server. This utility is superseded by Windows PowerShell for WMI; see Chapter 7 – Working with WMI. This deprecation applies only to the WMIC utility. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) itself is not affected. Also see Windows 10 features we’re no longer developing.

Threshold and Service Check Incident Re-Notification Suppression

For added alert clarity and streamlined troubleshooting and administration, Netreo is aligning incident re-notification behavior based on threshold and service check alarms for devices in Host Down, Maintenance Window, and Not Validated states to ensure that re-notifications for these incidents are not sent. Host Down incident re-notification behavior remains unchanged, but in the event that an active incident already exists for a threshold or service check and a device then goes into a Host Down, Maintenance Window, or Not Validated state, re-notifications for those incidents will not be sent for as long as they remain in any of these states.

For Host Down and Maintenance Window states, Netero will continue to write to the debug.log specifying that incident re-notification was suppressed, while incident and alarm states will remain as is. For devices set to Not Validated OPEN incidents will still be set to CLOSED and recorded in the incident log.
